Wellumio is on an ambitious mission - creating universal access to medical imaging. Spun out of a university research project, Wellumio was rapidly growing into a startup poised to bring its groundbreaking portable MRI technology to the world. They needed a development partner to design a world-class user experience—one that would make their device not only functional for patients but seamlessly integrate into real-world medical environments, with hardware and software that empowers the clinicians using it.
Through onsite research in hospital and an iterative prototyping process, I worked alongside a small team to understand the diverse needs of different users and the unique challenges of a portable MRI system. Every hospital had distinct demands, and no two patients were the same. My goal was to ensure the device was intuitive, efficient, and adaptable to these varied environments. I helped to lead the market positioning and product development taking their proof of concept into a testable prototype, setting the foundation for the next phase of development while also defining a cohesive product language for future iterations. Beyond hardware, I guided the UI/UX of their software and expanded their visual identity—creating a suite of marketing assets for their website and trade show presence to support their growing brand.
