The process of documenting and detailing the original type chase was the jumping off point for the project to ensure traditional and historical aspects of the chase were maintained. Design and 3D modelled to allow for prototyping and fabrication, no detail was spared including careful material selection of New Zealand and Australian hardwoods to capture the trans-tasman connection between the two design studios. The final outcome needed to capture the attention of staff and clients alike and was created specifically for adorning the entranceway to their Wellington studio. The result was so well received that Cato founder Ken Cato sought to get a version produced for his Melbourne based studio.

Working alongside Cato Brand Partners I was commissioned to collaborate on a one-off piece aimed at carrying their new internal mantra of, ‘Everyone has a story to tell’. Aspects of a 40 year old manual printing type chase and the analogue processes that surround it were captured and reproduced through means of digital fabrication.
